Radia Windrunner Will be The World’s Largest Airplane Larger than a Boeing 747

A Colorado-based startup known as Radia is developing what would be the world’s largest airplane ever. It will be 100 ft longer than the Boeing 747 and larger than the Russian AN-225. The aim of constructing such a massive aircraft is geared towards breaking down global barriers to clean energy making the transport of clean energy systems easier.

The Windrunner cavernous cargo bay measuring some 272,000 cubic feet which is 12 times the volume of the Boeing 747-400, will be capable of delivering a 300-foot-long wind farm blade to anywhere on Earth simplifying the task of transporting these enormous machines.

In keeping with global sustainability 2030 goals, the Windrunner will operate on sustainable aviation fuel and will have the capacity to land on paved or dirt runway as short as 6,000 feet. Radia plans to operate the aircraft from regional hubs starting in 2027 delivering parts and machinery to anywhere on the planet in half the time it would take transporting by sea.
