This Remote-Controlled “Gen0” Sports Car Concept Aims to Stretch the Parameters of VR Technology

Siemens is partnering with Avicar to create a first-of-its-kind remote-controlled sports car that you can drive remotely. Known as “Gen0”, this revolutionary concept aims to produce an electric vehicle with no doors, zero seats and no windows that can be driven from over 4,000 miles away by remote control.

The team designing the remarkable vehicle plan on equipping the Gen0 with a performance-driven engine that will propel this dark horse to a top speed of 100 mph. The vehicle will be driven remotely by virtual or augemented reality.

The driver will wear a VR headset where they will receive real-time feeds from livestream cameras inside the vehicle that will be transmitted by high-speed Wi-Fi, 5G or satellite. The driver wearing the headset will be able to control Gen0 as if they were playing a video game.

Remote reality is fast becoming a real world concept thanks to major advances in Wi-Fi, 5G and satellite communications. The team at Avicar plans to create 11 Gen0 vehicles for its first batch of production.
