The Ocean City Spiral is a Real-Life Atlantis That Could be Ready for Inhabitants by 2030

A group of Japanese architects plans to resurrect the ancient Atlantis kingdom with a gigantic underwater metropolis that can house up to 5,000 residents. The Ocean City Spiral, designed by the Japanese engineering firm Shimizu Corporation is a dome like base camp at the surface with a massive spiral descending underwater to a depth of 4,000 meters. The structure will be completely green, extracting resources from the deep sea and will store and reuse carbon dioxide and generate renewable energy from ocean thermal energy conversion. The project first unveiled in 2014, has had a tough time securing funding but with the increase in climate change the project looks set to move forward and may be ready for its first inhabitants by 2030.
