The New 77-Foot Wedgeline Hybrid 77 Yacht is Decked Out With Solar Panels to Power Its Hybrid Engines

Fabiana Yacht, the Italian shipbuilder has created a yacht unlike any other you have seen, this innovative vessel is decked out with expandable solar panels that generate electricity to power the vessel’s engines.

Known as the Wedgeline Hybrid 77, the vessel is clean and green as they come harnessing energy from the sun’s rays with panels that deploy on both sides of the hull and on top of the vessel.

The vessel currently under construction, will span 77 feet from bow to stern and will be made entirely from aluminum. It will have 1,200 square feet of solar panels that can be expanded and retracted as desired from its port and starboard sides.

The energy captured by the solar panels will be stored in on-board batteries which will power electric motors capable of attaining speeds of up to 8 knots for a duration of 16 hours.

The vessel is not fully electric but a hybrid propulsion system as the name implies. Besides its solar powered electric motors, it will also have a twin 1,900 hp MAN V-12 diesel engine that will allow it to achieve top cruising speeds of 29 knots.

The interior will be fully customizable with guest cabins and crew cabins along with a large saloon, galley, glass staircase which will access a flybridge. The foredeck will have outdoor sofas for relaxing in the sun and entertaining facilities.

A unique feature of the vessel is the ability of the aft platform to be lowered 3 feet below the waterline or raised to align with the flybridge for easy access.

The vessel commenced construction in April of 2022 and is currently under construction at Fabiana’s facility in Pisa, Italy. It is expected to complete construction and begin sea trials in the summer of 2023.
