The New 2026 Rivian R2 Build, Performance, Specifications and Pricing

Although it bears a striking resemblance to the smaller R1S, the new Rivian R2 is a vehicle in its own category. It’s built on a completely new platform distinct from previous models, its battery cells are also different as well as its overall construction methods. The R2 just like previous models, is engineered towards performance combining premium driving with rugged all-terrain capabilities.

As mentioned above, the new R2 is built on a new structural battery pack containing cylindrical cells. The base model uses a single rear motor, while two all-wheel drive configurations are offered with motors at the front and rear or tri-motor with one motor at the front and two in the rear.

The Rivian R2 new and improved battery pack is expected to give it a range of up to 330 miles depending on motor configuration. One striking feature of the new R2 is that it will have the NACS (North American Charging Standard) plug interface which is used on Tesla models this would enable charging from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

The R2 will inherit the R1S Drive+ suite, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, highway assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high-beams, and much more. An array of 11 cameras and five radar sensors are also standard on the R2 version.

Rivian R2 3

In terms of size, the R2 looks like a shrunken version of the R1S but nothing could be further from the truth. While the R2 is smaller, it’s a midsize SUV with two rows of seats rather than the three-row configuration standard on the R1S, still the R2 offers significant interior space and comfort.

Pricing for the new R2 will start around $45,000 probably for the single-motor model; the dual and tri-motor models will obviously cost more. Customers interested in purchasing the new Rivian R2 can make reservations now with initial deposits as low as $100 with deliveries expected in the first half of 2026.
