The 2024 Toyota GR Supra 45th Anniversary Edition Celebrates One of Toyota’s Legendary Sports Coupes

It’s hard to believe that 45 years have passed since Toyota debuted the legendary Celica Supra. The first generation A40/A50 that came out in 1978 was meant to compete with the 1976 Datsun 280Z, which at the time was the dominant sports car known as the Nissan Z-series that emerged back in 1969.

America has been fascinated by Toyota sports coupes since the 1979 Supra. Now it’s back after two decades of discontinuity. The new Supra has been a success in the North American market and Toyota is marking the Supra’s 45-year anniversary with a special edition GR Supra model.

The 45th anniversary edition Supra takes inspiration from the A80 that graced the automotive world between 1993 to 2002. To mark the anniversary and make a statement, Toyota has painted the new GR Supra model in bright orange known as Mikan Blast in Japan.

The new GR Supra anniversary edition has a 382 horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged inline V6. The exterior is like the current Supra models on the market except for a manually adjustable rear spoiler. Additional features include black 19-inch wheels and brake calipers, side panel graphics, and struts under the hood that are painted bright orange. The new GR anniversary Supra will go on sale towards the end of 2023.
