Tesla is Now Taking Reservations for its Roadster with a $50,000 Deposit

Congratulations if you’ve been waiting to place a deposit down on Tesla’s next-generation Roadster; your wait is over! However, you have to cough up $50,000 to reserve this bad boy, $5,000 initial down payment and $45,000 due by wire transfer within 10 days of initial payment.

This $50,000 will get you in line to own the new Roadster, of course it will put you behind the people who are getting one free through the now-defunct vehicle purchase referral program. If you decide to change your mind during the waiting period, Tesla claims that the deposit is completely refundable, although it’s unclear whether you will get your initial $5,000 deposit back or the entire amount.

The Roadster has been plagued with delays and silence from Tesla so it quite unclear how long your $50,000 deposit will be in the hands of Tesla before they deliver. Tesla no longer operates a public relations department so there is no way to ask how long will be the wait or how many reservations are on the books.

So for those still willing to go ahead and take the plunge and part with $50,000, the wait might very well be a few months to several years, no one knows except the team at Tesla.
