Sony Playstaion Project Q Handheld Goes Head to Head with the Razer Edge

Finally revealed is the long-rumored Sony PlayStation Project Q. The newest portable handheld gaming system from the electronic giant which was unveiled at the PlayStation Showcase. Initial reviews falls short of what some players had hoped for. It does not compete with the Steam Deck or the Nintendo Switch. Instead, Sony made it clear that it was intended for streaming PS5 games on a portable screen.

That puts Razer Edge, which roughly delivers the same functionality, up against the Sony PlayStation Project Q. However, the million dollar question is whether its superior to the Razer Edge? To answer that question we must understand the functions that Sony has crammed into the PlayStation portable.

The Sony PlayStation Project Q is a portable game console that resembles a DualSense controller in appearance. However, the 8-inch screen that divides the controller’s two parts is what distinguishes it from a PS5 controller. The PlayStation portable will only be compatible with PS Remote Play when it launches later this year.

In other words, the main goal of the Sony PlayStation Project Q is to provide a better mobile gaming experience than PS Remote Play. The notice also fairly clearly states that the PS5 must have the games loaded. Since the handheld lacks native PlayStation hardware, it cannot be used to play PlayStation games.

However, there has been no formal announcement on the nature of the Project Q software. Sony made no mention of the possibility of using the gadget independently of the PS5. Even so, it already outperforms the Razer Edge by adding DualSense capabilities to a portable streaming device.

It’s debatable if the project Q will genuinely appeal to the general public. It’s possible that Sony would integrate PS Now, which would make it more appealing to players that value mobility.
