Shenzhen Opera House

The international design competition for a new opera house in Shenzhen, China, was awarded to Ateliers Jean Nouvel. The winning scheme, dubbed “the light of the sea,” beat out a number of other well-known companies, including Bjarke Ingels Group and Kengo Kuma & Associates. With a fluid like design that responds gracefully to its surroundings, the building aims to improve the city’s waterfront promenade and put Shenzhen on the map of global Opera destinations.
