Shenzhen GPD Just Revealed the Win Max 2 A Handheld Gaming Laptop Packed with Power

They’re in for a surprise if Valve and Nintendo assumed they were the only players in the handheld gaming market. The Win Max 2, a powerful mobile gaming laptop, was recently unveiled by Shenzhen GPD.

It’s important to emphasize the word “laptop”, the traditional clamshell laptop style of the GPD Win Max 2 sets it apart from all other portable gaming devices. For gaming, only this “laptop” fits comfortably in two hands.

Like an Xbox or PlayStation controller, the little laptop has a complete QWERTY keyboard, two thumb sticks, a direction pad, and four command keys. Above the keyboard, between the thumb sticks, is the mouse pad. Even though this strategy is unorthodox, it is effective. Since the Win 2 Max is compact enough, the mouse pad won’t see much use on this device.

In any event, this compact design has enough functionality to distinguish it from typical Steam Deck or Onexplayer gadgets. On the GPD Win Max 2, you could even take a break from play to send a short email or tweet.

The 10.1-inch screen occupies over 90% of the device’s screen real estate owing to the ultra-narrow bezels. It has a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600 at 299 pixels per inch. It is protected against breaks and drops by Corning Gorilla Glass. The touchscreen display is the best part, and you can use most styluses with it.

The GPD Win Max 2 is equipped with AMD’s newest eight-core Ryzen 7 6800U CPU and Radeon 680M graphics since a gaming machine is nothing without power. You will then be able to play most games at 60 frames per second. RAM options range from 16 GB to 32 GB, while SSD storage options range from 1 TB to 2 TB.

The Win Max 2 is also available in an Intel variant with a 12-core i7 CPU and Intel Iris XE graphics. Despite not being as power-efficient as the Radeon 680M, the Iris XE still runs admirably and manages 4K games a little bit better. It all depends on which chipmaker you like most.

A 2-million-pixel ultrawide webcam, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, four super-linear surround-sound speakers, two vibration motors, a backlit keyboard, and other features make this a rather potent small device. The whole contraption may be operated for up to five hours on a 67 watt-hour battery.

All of this is housed in what GPD refers to as a “Apple-style” body made entirely of metal. The bottom half offers cozy resin grips for your hands and is built of aluminum-magnesium alloys. There are also a number of connectors, including USB-C ports and slots for SD and micro-SD cards for photographers.
