Lightyear 0 Solar Car is a Long-Range Solar-Powered Car That Can Be Driven For Months Without Charging

EV startup Lightyear revealed its first solar-powered electric car, dubbed Lightyear 0, at an event in June in the Netherlands. It’s the world’s first production-ready solar car capable of long-range travel of up to seven months without charging. How does it achieve this remarkable feat?

The exterior of the car is decked out with solar panels on the roof and hood that recharge onboard batteries while the vehicle is driving or parked. Production was originally scheduled to start in 2021, with a starting price of $169,000 per unit. The first units are expected to be delivered in late 2022.
