Ford Electrifies its Legendary Explorer SUV For the European Market

The Ford Explorer is by far one of the oldest and best-known SUVs on the market. Now this ubiquitous symbol of American manufacturing is getting an all-electric partner. Say hello to Ford’s New fully electric Ford Explorer, the company’s new flagship for the European market set to launch in Europe later in 2023.

The new electric Ford Explorer was designed in the United States and will be built and assembled at Ford’s new EV Centre in Cologne Germany. The exterior design of the new electric Explorer is futuristic and stunning with beautiful curves and a muscular appearance that puts to shame its gasoline powered counterpart. It’s by far one of the best Ford Explorer designs we have seen in the long time.

The interior’s most notable feature is a movable 15-inch center touchscreen. The screen can move up and down and conceals a built-in lockable storage space for valuables. The rest of the interior features sculpted seats, a digital dashboard with the fully integrated touch screen that controls all the functions of the infotainment system.

The powertrain specs for the new Ford Explore EV is still not clear, but we anticipate it will have similarly sized battery packs as the Volkswagen ID.4, which offers 58.0 kWh and 77.0 kWh battery packs. Moreover, it can possibly include the same battery pack, motor and powertrain as the new electric Ford F-150 Lightning pickup which debuted earlier this year.

Ford plans to offer rear and all-wheel drive options which means we are looking somewhere in the range of under 200 hp for the base version and 300+ hp for top-of-the-line versions. It will have a range of 310 miles on a full charge and an 10-80% fast charging time of 25 minutes.

Starting prices will be less than €45,000 or about $48,250. While Fords new EV is for the European market, the North American market has not been neglected. The company is working hard to complete an electric Explorer for the US market that may debut later this year.
