Arcimoto FUV is a Fun Utility Vehicle that is Fully Electric and Loads of Fun to Drive

As the name suggests FUV is the new acronym for “Fun Utility Vehicle” and if you are tired of driving boring cars and SUV’s, this adventure vehicle will provide loads of exciting driving on the road. Three-wheeled vehicles has never been top seller in the United States, but Arcimoto, an Oregon based manufacturer is looking to change that dynamic in a market that prefers large vehicles preferably on four wheels.

With electric vehicles fast becoming the norm, many companies are entering the space for fast urban transport vehicles that deviate from the standard vehicle designs we have come to know, and the FUV is a radical vehicle that is at the cutting-edge of this transition.

Arcimoto is not the only company producing three-wheeled electric autocycles, there are other competitors like Aptera and ElectraMeccanica that also built three-wheelers classified by DMV’s as “autocycles” which are basically a blend between a car and a motorcycle.

The FUV offers a semi-enclosed cabin, tandem seating and crucially, power-assisted handlebars instead of a steering wheel like some ther designs. It’s powered by two front-mounted motors which produce a combined 77 hp and mated to a single-speed automatic transmission. A single 20 kWh battery stored in the center of the FUV powers the entire vehicle.

To make the FUV a practical every day vehicle, Arcimoto has incuded options such as West Coast half doors, cup holders, phone mounts, and locable rear storage. These options make the FUV more attractive to those seeking a fun everyday vehicle for getting around urban areas.

Arcimoto claims the FUV can go from 0-60 mph in 7.5 seconds and can achieve top speeds of 75 mph. At $18,000 starting price per unit, it’s far cheaper than the cheapest EV on the market, the Nissan Leaf which starts at $28,425.
