Buick Wildcat EV Concept is a Preview of the Company’s Electric Future
Buick’s new Wildcat EV concept is a preview of the company’s electric future and a sign of what to expect from the automaker in the future. It’s all part of the company’s desire to transform the entire Buick brand by the end of the decade with a new brand identity, redesigned logo and new designs for its automobiles. Even the old “Electra” name once used on a model manufactured by GM from 1959 to 1990 is being resurrected since the name is more fitting for its upcoming line of electric vehicles of which the first is due in 2024.
According to the company’s global vice president Duncan Aldred, Buick and GMC is committed to an all-electric future by the end of the decade. It is hoped that the company’s new logo, the return of the Electra name for its electric vehicles and its new design philosophy will propel the brand to the upper echelons of the burgeoning electric car market.
The new Wildcat EV concept was designed to embody all of the above mentioned changes to the company and will serve as a blueprint for future Buick electric vehicles. The concept is a new face for Buick, introducing a bold, forward leaning front-end appearance that features a low-mounted trapezoidal grille that gives the vehicle a peculiar appearance.
The interior of the Wildcat is in a class by itself, along with providing front lighting, thin-beam projectors and micro-LEDs deck out the inside of the car. Through the rear window, you can see a charge-state indicator so you are never unaware of the amount of battery charge available. Not surprising for EV’s, there are several screens in the cabin including an ultra-wide primary screen and a secondary panel. There’s also a “Zen Mode” that dims the lights, gives you a massage through the seat, and even diffuses aromatherapy fragrances.
Buick did not provide performance specifications for the Wildcat EV but stressed that the concept would be the forerunner for a whole range of electric vehicles the company plans to introduce in the near future. We will just have to wait and see what the new Wildcat will offer when it hits the market in early 2024.
