Hyundai Unveils its Much Anticipated New High-Performance Ioniq 5 N EV
Hyundai has finally unveiled its new all-electric Ioniq 5 N at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Korean automaker which has seen amazing success over the last few years with the Ioniq model has decided to introduce a new high-performance version of its best-selling EV.

Hyundai claims the new Ioniq 5 N can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under 3.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 161 mph. The new Ioniq 5 N is the first vehicle in the company’s new N-brand performance category and has been partially redesigned from the standard Ioniq models.
The new Ioniq 5 N will feature a boost mode that will allow it to produce up to 641 hp. In normal operation without boost mode, the vehicle will produce about 600 hp and 545 lb-ft of torque. According to Hyundai, these numbers may vary on final production models.

Hyundai decided to use the same battery pack as standard Ioniq models that stored 77.4 kWh of usable energy with some moderate upgrades. The updated battery for the new Ioniq 5 will squeeze out about 84.0 kWh and feature an upgraded thermal management system for increased cooling, better motor oil cooler and battery chiller. All the above will help to maximize performance while increasing energy efficiency.

Additionally, the EV will feature a new regenerative braking system that reuses energy from braking to recharge the batteries. The 40cm-diamter disc brakers at the front and 36cm at the rear produce an enormous amount of heat energy that will be recycled into the vehicle electrical system.

The new EV is lower and wider than the standard Ioniq 5 which helps it to accommodate the much wider 21-inch wheels. A more prominent diffuser also helps to increase downforce. As of the writing of this article, Hyundai hasn’t revealed pricing for the new Ioniq 5 N. The model is slated for release in early 2024. Therefore, we anticipate pricing and other performance information to be released towards the end of the year.
